Canvas Paint print was inspired by vintage Paint-by-number kits from the 1950s. Dan Robbins a Detroit-based commercial artist at Palmer Show Card Paint Company was tasked to find a creative way to sell more paint. He created the first Paint-by-number kit, inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci, who used numbered patterns on canvas to teach his apprentices how to paint. The idea was an immediate success and went on to sell tens of millions of copies.
