Engraved Mountain

The North Face

Fall / Winter 22

Etching was developed in Germany around the late 1430s. The process involved lines being cut into a metal plate by hand or acid. Before etching was used for printing all books and manuscripts were reproduced one at a time, by hand. With the introduction of etching for printmaking, information was easier to produce and share, changing the world as we know it. Engraved Mountain was inspired by some of the earliest depictions of the outdoors. This was how many people experienced the majestic mountains of the outdoors for the first time.
