In 1915, the French army established the world’s first military unit dedicated to disguise—the Section de Camouflage. The artists assigned to the unit were a mix of traditional fine artists and Cubists. They worked together to come up with innovative ways to blend into nature. The Stippled camo pattern celebrates this early form of camouflage and the hands-on approach to pattern creation.
